TITLE I SCHOOL PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
The Thurgood Marshall Middle School Council
supports the important role of parents in the education process and will
support the following activities to facilitate participation.
We will convene an annual meeting
informing parents on Title 1.
We will offer flexible meeting times for
parent meetings, when requested, such as after- school or evenings.
We will involve parents in an organized,
ongoing and timely way through the School Council, in the planning, review
and improvement of program plans, including parent involvement policy and
school wide plans.
We will provide parents with:
• school report cards
• their
child's individual assessment results
• a description
and explanation of the curriculum • opportunities for regular meetings
• timely
responses to suggestions made by parents
We will share the responsibility with parents to insure that
all students meet high standards through the development and implementation
of a School-Family Compact.
The partnership between home and the
Thurgood Marshall Middle School will be supported
by the School Council made up of parents, teachers, principal and the
community representatives who will continually assess, plan and implement
strategies that help build the partnership.

TITLE I DISTRICT PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
A. District Policy on Parent Involvement
1. In the fall, at an annual meeting
at each Title I school, parents of eligible children will be informed of the following:
a. Title I policies and
procedures, including School and District Family Involvement Policies.
b. The School Improvement Plan.
2. In the fall of each year parents and teachers will
complete a School-Parent Compact.
3. Parents will be
included on PIM (Performance
Improvement Mapping) Teams to secure their consideration on the following
matters among others:
a. needs assessment
b. program goals and objectives c.
educational strategies
4. School officials shall provide
a full and timely response to any parent recommendations.
5. School officials shall be
prepared to offer, upon request, such support and resources as are needed,
including reasonable access to meeting
space and necessary materials as well as opportunities to view the operation of programs,
including classroom visits.
6. In developing methods and
policy guidelines for parent consultation,
parents and school officials shall conduct a review of parent consultation
and parent involvement policy to determine barriers to full and effective parent
involvement. This information shall then be used to review
and revise the methods and policies for consultation in order to increase
the effectiveness of parent consultation.
B. Update written policies after consultation and
review by parents, to ensure that parents are involved in the planning,
design, and implementation of the Title I
Program.
1. Parent will have access to
Title I laws, regulations, and other documents, including the program
proposal and program evaluations.
2. Through meetings (including School Council meetings and PIM Team meetings),
parents will be involved in the planning, design, and
implementation of the Title I
Program and the School Improvement Plan.
3. Parents on School Councils will be
surveyed annually regarding parental participation and barriers to
participation, and regarding overall parent involvement policies and
procedures.
C. Make parent involvement
available and understandable to parents of participating children.
1. Distribute parent involvement policies at the Annual Meeting and enter
the policies on the District website.
2. Translate District and School Parent Involvement policies into various
languages, as necessary.
D. Schedule of Parent Training and Parent Meetings
1. Establish schedule of parent education offerings, send notices to parents
and enter the schedule on the District or School website.
2. Establish a schedule of parent meetings.
E. Permit parents of participating children to observe Title I activities.
1. Communicate to parents that they may observe their child's Title I
instruction.
2. During American Education week make a special effort to invite parents to
visit their child's Title I classroom.
F. To the extent practical, conduct a parent-teacher conference with the
parents of each participating child to discuss the child's progress,
placement, and methods the parents can use to complement the child's
instruction.
1. Parent-teacher conferences will be held according to the regular school
schedule. 2. Provide parents of children whose MCAS performance was at the
Warning level
opportunity to participate in the development of the Individual Student
Success Plan.
